BWS93222's Gravatar I find the theme of this Moneyland project troubling. Normally this wouldn't cause me to write in but since Del, whose music I greatly admire, is involved, I feel I need to put in my 2 cents worth. The main premise here seems to be that greed is rampant in America and is typified by the fact that many of our jobs are disappearing or being outsourced--and we have only greedy corporations to blame. But this is a narrow view and ignores realities of the global marketplace. As someone whose job was outsourced to Bangalore 2 years ago, I understand the impact that these hard business decisions can have. But we need to see the larger picture. Like many Americans, my retirement security depends on these same corporations remaining profitable and growing. If corporations become complacent and put their primary focus on needs of their employees' job security rather than on the needs of their shareholders, the impact to our economy and way of life would be devastating. Bottom line: if the corporations in my 401k don't compete and grow, I'll be dining on Alpo in my retirement years. So I hope y'all will think twice before throwing around the word "greed" indiscriminately. Perhaps instead it would be more worthwhile to focus on the other side of greed, envy, which rarely received the condemnation it deserves.

DonnaInVA's Gravatar I've lost a job twice due to American companies being bought by foreign owned corporations.

Being from the rural southern Piedmont region of Virginia, tobacco and textiles provided stable
incomes for the majority of the population including my Mom and Dad. Nobody got rich, but
nobody was losing their homes. I know we always had what we needed. I've been thru' layoffs
twice in my life because American companies were bought out by foreign owned corporations.
I'm seeing people older than I am struggling just to make ends meet and to keep their homes because
their jobs have gone. That is wrong!

When jobs leave this country and individuals have no hope of finding another, it is a problem.

Thanks Del for having the guts to mean what you say and say what you mean.

Brad Harper's Gravatar I find the premise of this album, website and competition offensively laughable. The very fact that Mr. McCoury is capitalizing on the movement generated by his work reveals the flimsy nature of the very premises it's coasting on. For him to denigrate our remnants of Capitalism, the only system that allows talented individuals like himself to objectively prosper, is a humorous spectacle. The only reasonable conclusion I can draw from Del's many 'calls to action' is that he's supporting the cause for more government meddling in the economy, more income redistribution and more sacrifice of individuals for the sake of the collective. Doesn't the Golden Rule lose some of it's splendor when it becomes compulsory?

He thinks rural America has it bad now? Just wait until what's left of our economy is suffocated by more regulation - when those corporate "non hard-working" types stop providing what jobs are left.

Thanks Del, that's just what America needs... more patently un-american progress. Stick to music, when it comes to philosophy and economics, you're in over your head.

"economic injustice..." - what a joke.

Billy Dunbar's Gravatar I wonder if those who are posting on this blog that they are upset and put off by this album are themselves fat, happy with a job making plenty of money and driving
a gas eating big car? Maybe even being one of those CEO's that do noting and then want a big bonsus at the cost of the middle class they have working for them?
That can be my only though why they would be bad mouthing Mr McCoury and his project. It seems this country never learns that the rich get richer and poor get
poorer. And the middle class make any way they can. Bring back job's to this country, we will make it and sell it to the world, and the world can make there's and if
it is worth buying and their people are being treated right and getting paid right then they can stay home and have jobs too. That way we can have job's here and
job's there and we down have to pay high prices for transportation or to countries that do not like us or want to do business with us. That sounds like a better
World Market idea then giving jobs to other country or giving or borrowing money to rich people in other countries who dominate and abuse their poeple and live
by the idea of greed and graft! Keep sing and supporting your ideal's Del and us little guy's will too. God Bless America and it's free & common people way of life!

TS Pendleton's Gravatar The US Economy in my humble opinion is suffering primarily due to the loss of good blue collar manufacturing jobs. The loss of the US manufacturing sector has removed a crucial link from the economic chain.
These jobs provided a living wage that allowed for most of America to have some disposable income with which they could buy American goods made by Americans ensuring that more of our dollars got to stay in America.
The irony of it all is that the CEO's that have driven down production costs and raised revenue and stock value have done a good job according to their job description and responsibilities.
Unfortunately their exemplary job performances have been good for their companies and stockholders but ultimately bad for America.
Earlier posts here have disparaged the message that Moneyland delivers because they feel it infringes on the Free Market American Economy.
Is our Market truly fair and free when the American taxpayers are asked repeatedly to bail out mismanaged financial institutions, (ie The Keating 5 scandal, Bear Sterns, Fannie May and Freddie MAc, potentially Lehman Brothers)
Or when the leaders of Enron can squander the retirement funds of their employees while enjoying healthy salaries.; When a Washington influence peddler gets a sentence of 4 years to serve concurrently with his 4 year sentence from Florida.
The purpose of Government is to protect the American citizens whether it be a military threat or threat to our very livelihood and economy.
I don't think Government should be a cradle to the grave life support system, but when the balance of wealth and power become disparate something must be done.
Business has proven that they may not always do the right thing on their own (although some businesses do), perhaps they need a little oversight and clear forward thinking policy to create an environment where everyone benefits where American Business can create manufacturing jobs and American Workers can once again support their families with a single income.
Which would foster stronger families because both parents would not have to work just to get by and one parent could actually be there for their children. Let's talk Real Family Values.
This album is a brilliant, timely idea and all who have participated and created it should be commended.
Perhaps we can get some films out prior to the election?

David's Gravatar "Letting the market decide" might work if we were still living in a time when business owners felt that making enough to provide for their families and their employees was enough, but we don't.
Perpetual growth is the only model for business success that we see touted today.
This "never enough" approach to business cannot sustain itself.
We lost our way when greed and lack of compassion began to be viewed as virtues.
We shall someday hear the shallow cries of the spiritually poor pleasure seekers that sold out the many to provide the few with fat, spoiled lifestyles...
Well done, Del.

SLManess's Gravatar After seeing DMcM Band and hearing Del's comments and
music from this project on the stage, I can only think
he is spot on. Then to come here and read some of the
comments posted, I know he is spot on. The financial
problems that have surfuced since these posts were written
only shows the writers' are more than likely the very people
that Del sings about on the song "Moneyland". Thanks Del
for your courage and wisdom. Oh yeah, the music is awesome.
